How to choose the stake for your prize games

Choose a stake you would not mind losing: on EonChess prize games start at 1 USDT, and the prudent approach is to play small amounts relative to your balance, move up only if your results back it up and set a limit per session in advance. Winning is not guaranteed, so look after the money first.

Start with the smallest

The minimum stake for a prize game is 1 USDT and the minimum deposit is 5 USDT. Start with the lowest stake until you know the time controls, your real ELO and how you react under pressure. If you have not played for money yet, practice first in the free practice.

A simple money management rule

There is no magic number, but a common prudent guideline is not to play more than 5% of your balance in a single game, so a bad streak does not wipe it out. With a small balance, that means staying at the minimum stake and moving up only when your balance grows.

Remember the fee too: the platform charges 5% of games with a stake, so you need to win a bit more than half your games to come out ahead in the long run. We explain it in how to make money playing chess.

Signs that you should stop

Stopping in time protects your balance more than any opening. Stop playing if:

  • You are playing to win back what you lost.
  • You raise the stake after a loss.
  • You are playing tired, angry or in a hurry.
  • You are playing with money you need for other things.

Tools to control your play

You can ask support for a daily stake limit or self-exclusion from games with a stake for as long as you choose. While it lasts, you can keep playing for free, practicing and withdrawing your balance. More information in the responsible gaming policy.

Playing for money involves risk. For adults aged 18 and over only, and with money you can afford to lose.
