Is chess for money luck or skill?
Chess is a game of pure skill: there are no dice, no cards and no hidden information, and the result depends only on how each person plays. On EonChess you do not play against a house but against another player, and the better player wins.

Why chess does not depend on luck
In chess both players see exactly the same position at all times: nothing is hidden and nothing is random. Every game is decided by each player's decisions, which is why the better player wins the vast majority of games against a weaker one.
That is the fundamental difference with games of chance, where a random number generator decides the result and the house has a statistical edge over you.
There is no house to play against
On EonChess nobody bets against you. Both players put in the same stake and the winner takes the total minus a 5% fee. The platform earns the same whether you win or your opponent does, so it has no interest in you losing.
How fair play is protected
Skill only counts if nobody uses a chess engine. That is why every game with a stake is analysed with Stockfish, comparing the accuracy and timing of each move with normal human play. An impossible jump in level triggers an alert and freezes withdrawals while it is reviewed.
Every suspicious case is reviewed by a person. If cheating is confirmed, the account is permanently blocked and the money is returned to the affected opponents. Last month's figures are on the fair play page.
An important legal point
Chess being a game of skill does not mean games for money are legal everywhere. Rules depend on each country, and some restrict or ban games with stakes. It is your responsibility to check that your country allows you to take part. If it does not, you can still play for free and practice against the computer.
For adults aged 18 and over only. Play responsibly and only with money you can afford to lose.
