What is USDT and why it is used for online chess

USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin: it is designed to be worth around one US dollar, unlike bitcoin or ether, which go up and down. EonChess uses it so that the stake of a game and its prize have a clear value.

What being a stablecoin means

A stablecoin tries to hold a fixed value: 1 USDT is roughly 1 dollar. That is why the prize of a game does not change in value between winning it and withdrawing it. It is not an absolute guarantee, because the price can drift slightly, but it moves far less than other cryptocurrencies.

The same USDT on different networks

USDT exists on several blockchain networks. On EonChess you can use three:

  • BNB Smart Chain (BEP20).
  • Solana.
  • TON.

Each network is independent: always send USDT on the same network you chose on EonChess. If you pick the wrong network, the funds can be lost.

Why we use it on EonChess

There are three practical reasons:

  • Clear value: both players know exactly how much they put in and how much they can win.
  • Direct transfers: you deposit and withdraw from your own wallet, with no cards or banking intermediaries.
  • The same amount for both: the pot is made of identical contributions and the winner receives it minus a 10% fee.

How to get USDT

It is bought on a cryptocurrency exchange or in a wallet that offers it, and then sent over your chosen network to your EonChess deposit address. The full steps are in the chess with crypto guide, and to cash out your winnings see how to withdraw USDT.

Cryptocurrencies involve risk and every country has its own tax rules: you are responsible for the obligations that apply to your winnings.
